About Aimee

I am Aimee Halpin.  Creator of The Burned Hand FB page and blog theburnedhand.com.  Locally, I run a yoga group under the name Vitalize you Wellness.  I help others take back their lives through the power of mindfulness, yoga, and a combination of practices that I actually combined into journal therapy.

Why The Burned Hand?

At 23 years old I was diagnosed with a very rare disease that left me saying why me?  My urine had turned the color of port wine and my skin was very thin.  I found little cuts all over my arms and I had no idea how they appeared.  Then came the blisters.  They were as big as dimes all over my hands and when they would pop, acid would come out.  It reminded me of the time I was 3 years old and had burned my hand on the hot stove helping my mom cook, only this time, I was merely trying to live.  I was trying to get my first real teaching job and was working as an assistant.  I had just finished college in December and I was planning a wedding.  Was it stress???

I didn't know then that 18 years of specialists and bloodletting was to follow my diagnosis of Porphyria Cutanea Tarda.  Nor did I know that the underlying cause was a genetic mutation known as Hereditary Hemochromatosis.  More on my story can be found here as well.  As time went on, I would be diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, told dormant Epstein-Barr Virus probably played a part, then get told that I had also acquired or awoken fibromyalgia which brought on secondary depression.  I would later find out that all my research was correct every single time.  I realized that something still wasn't processing correctly in my body and was told I carried the MTHFR gene issue as well.

By that point I was like "HELL NO."  No.  We are done.  I am not having any of these "diseases" anymore.  I couldn't walk hardly as my hip was going out from pain...no one could touch me as my skin hurt so much.  From the base of my skull to the lower spine I felt every single vertebrae in my spine.  I couldn't sleep due to the pain from one of my shoulder blades, and I was miserable.  I had sharp, shooting pains in my stomach from autoimmune, was bloated, and had already had more tests run than I could count.  Life could literally kiss my ass at this point.  I was only 35 when the worst onset of pain descended on me like the hounds of hell.  They weren't taking me down.  Not this gal.

As "luck" would have it, I had a violent allergic reaction one day while teaching school and almost had a nervous breakdown.  Think Wedding Singer.  "Nervous breakdown. Nervous breakdown.  Cuckoo's Nest."   See photos here. <<< note, this is of my arm.  Not a nervous breakdown photo, sorry.

What did I do??

As usual, after my brief Moonstruck moment where someone needed to slap me, that of course was me slapping me saying "snap outta it!", I got to work.  I gave up gluten in 2012.  Wow.  That seems weird to say.  That was when I started noticing the correlation anyway.  It would take me a while before I put it together that sugah was da debil too.  << truth.  I then got pissed off and INVENTED my own damn plan to heal.  WORD UP.

I could hardly hold myself up, but a friend said get back to yoga.  So I said okay.  I completed 200 hours of Vinyasa Yoga teacher training in June of 2015, and then in the fall took yoga for pain and arthritis.  I then completed a sports nutrition certification and came up with my first product called 4 Weeks to Wellness.  Since then, I have learned that in order to fully LIVE, you have to be grateful for what you have, so I developed my Gratitude Journal E-book so that I never forgot how wonderful it is to live in good health.  Lastly, when I realized that people like me needed more support, I came up with a type of mindful journal therapy Club and I knew immediately what it had to be called.  The Head|Heart|Health Club.  So that is my story friends.  That is who I am.

Frequently Asked Questions

 About wellness coaching

Question #1 How does being an empath help you coach?

In the closed group, the Head|Heart|Health Club I am able to direct more personalized attention to what the group really needs that week thus driving the future content of not only the blog, but our lessons online.

Question #3 What if I don't like writing?

With journal prompts like in the Gratitude Journal, it's easy to use.  It is really directed at just thinking and can be read like a book instead if you prefer, or even done with a partner.  Reading together at night to make your sense of Gratitude stronger.  You may even draw as art therapy.

Question #2 Why use a subscription for the Head|Heart|Health Club?

It is well known that when you work with a coach, there are times you "fall off the wagon."  The combination of commitments, ups and downs, obstacles, and set backs can best be helped in a group setting with monthly content.

Question #4 How long should I work with a coach?

That's really up to you which is why the 4 Weeks of Wellness is a stand alone product meaning you can do it on your own.  That program lists out the baby steps you can take.  However, if you need one on one support and like the idea of the content being tailored to the group, then the HHH Club and group coaching is right for you.
